Facebook Advertising Boycott: Mark Zuckerberg Stands Up to Censorship Pressure from Big Brands
Over the past week, a growing number of large multinational corporations, companies and major brands such as Coca-Cola, Unilever, Levi's, Honda, have pulled ads and boycotting Facebook over the platform's refusal to take down divisive content and hate speech.
While I agree that hate speech should not be promoted on social media platforms, I think big business getting involved in censorship sets a dangerous precedent moving forward, as it could lead to more and more censorship of anti-establishment voices in the future. So while it may seem like an unpopular thing to do (Twitter has caved by censoring tweets and Reddit removed alt-right and alt-left subreddits), Mark Zuckerberg's stance on allowing free speech on the Facebook platform will benefit the American populist in the long run.
