Can carbohydrates promote weight loss?
Carbohydrates, otherwise known as Carbs are difficult to give up when our body and mind crave them. So, cutting back on them can be hard, but rewarding. As mentioned in my previous videos, weight loss can contribute to many health benefits like lowering your blood pressure, treating diabetes, and many other health benefits. Losing weight will increase your self-esteem and overall feeling about yourself.
Losing weight can be greatly achieved when you eat fewer calories as well as eating fewer carbohydrates. There is controversy concerning this area, but there are many reasons why eating fewer carbs can contribute to weight loss.
I am not a proponent of cutting carbs completely out of your diet because carbs are vital to our body and health. We need carbs for many processes of the body. One of the most is our energy.
Simple sugars are absorbed by the small intestine when carbs are broken down giving us energy. When our blood sugar rises, our pancreas releases a hormone called insulin. With insulin, sugar is able to give our bodies energy. Extra glucose is stored in our liver and muscles. However, when we have excessive belly fat, obesity, and limited physical activity we may become insulin resistant.
Studies and many testimonials across the internet show that restricted carb intake over the long term has shown results with more consistent weight loss versus shorter diet periods. As with any diet plan, consult with your physician, but many successful weight loss diets have ranged from fifty to one-hundred-fifty grams of carbohydrates per day. Essentially, a low-carb diet will allow your body to use the fat storage in your body as energy, hence promoting weight loss.
In an upcoming video, I will discuss the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates and how they will contribute to your weight loss. Additionally, I will give examples and what is the best for you depending on your weight loss goals.
