Installing ditch crossing, culvert pipe & watering hole PART 1!

July 2020. Join me for another fun, but very challenging project as we head back to the 53 acre parcel that we did some land clearing on a few months ago. In today's road mission I will be working on a 20 foot ditch that is about 7 foot deep or so, with steep sides. The goal of this projects is multi-fold. First, to install a culvert pipe and make a new crossing for tractors and UTV's to cross the 20 foot ditch. Secondly I plan to build up the ditch crossing and place the pipe up near the top and basically build a new wildlife pond dam beneath it so that on the upside of the ditch the water will collect before hitting the culvert pipe and will form a new small pond or watering hole/wildlife pond. There will also be more benefits to this project such as creating a new deer and wildlife travel pinch point or funnel as they will start using the new road crossing to cross the 20 foot wide ditch. Bonus!! This kind of land management project is definitely 'thinking outside of the box,' and trying to maximize your land investment or property management by accomplishing several objects at the same time.
