Processing Chickens - July 11, 2020

This was a very personal journey for me today as we processed 29/30 meat birds here at my stepfathers farm.
I wasn't thinking that it was going to be as personal as it was and it seemed like it was a really long day.
We followed the process I watched from Lumnah Acres (https://youtu.be/ZUzP5VVgzp4) and they give a better step by step process on their video.
I've never been a person to ask anyone to do something I was unwilling to do myself so I needed to travel this journey to truly appreciate what this all entails.
Am I ready to be a homesteader and provide most of our food from our own land?
You can't know that unless you are prepared to do everything that is required and asking someone else to do it I feel is a cheaters way out.
I distinctly remember being thankful through out the whole day and being humbled by it.
Now I know more of what is ahead of me when we go bear hunting this fall.
It is one thing to be next to the person that is processing the animal to be taken to a butcher but it is quite another to be the one processing yourself.
I am grateful for the experience and I hope those that watch know that I didn't take this lightly.
