Friday Morning Devotional, July 17, 2020

On Friday mornings our devotional will come from Samuel Rutherford's Letters. This morning we read two letters from Rutherford as he was bound in prison in Aberdeen in 1637. The first was written to a Mrs. Sibylla MaCadam and spoke of the loveliness of Christ in comparison to the world around us. He encouraged this faithful lady to remember always the sweetness of the face of Jesus and to be found resting in His grace.

Our second letter is a word of encouragement to a minister in Ayrshire to remember the nature of God's providence and Christ's Kingship in the midst of dark times. He cautioned this young man to walk by faith and not by sight; to turn his discouragement into a boldness for the Lord Jesus and His gospel.

May the Lord bless you and keep you this day.

This were letters 193 and 194 in the Banner of Truth edition.
