ANGELOLOGY-THE ELECT ANGELS - Nelson C. Turner

KJV 1 Timothy 5:21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and
the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before
another, doing nothing by partiality.
This one verse in Timothy teaches us that there are elect angels, as opposed to un-
elect angels. It is readily concluded then that any angel that has remained in a state
of purity and obedience to God is the subject of God’s free unmerited favor. When
we compare this verse in Paul’s letter to Jude1:6, the teaching of angelic election
becomes very clear. KJV Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first
estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under
darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Fallen angels are those angelic
beings that followed Lucifer in his rebellion against God leaving their first estate of
ministering unto God in worship to him and became active agents of evil in both
the physical and spiritual world. Let us here not that all angels fall into one of these
two groups, their being no intermediary state between good and evil. As there is no
intermediate state between heaven and hell for men, so there is no intermediate
state for angels.
Our discourse here today will be restricted to elect angels only, and we will not
deal with the topic of the angels that kept not their first estate. We will concern
ourselves with the existence of angels, their creation, their personality, their nature,
and their ministry. We find the elect angels busy serving the Lord in both
Testaments. The very term angel means messenger, and we see them performing
this role repeatedly, bringing messages from God to elect men and women in both
covenant times.
1) The existence of Angels: KJV Matthew 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not
one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do
always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
KJV Matthew 13:38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children
of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; KJV
Matthew 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the
end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.

KJV Psalm 8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast
crowned him with glory and honour.
KJV Hebrews 2:5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the
world to come, whereof we speak.KJV Hebrews 2:6 But one in a certain
place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the
son of man, that thou visitest him?KJV Hebrews 2:7 Thou madest him a
little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour,
and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
KJV Hebrews 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city
of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable
company of angels,
2) The Creation of Angels: The angels are a group of beings distinct from man
and any other part of creation. They were created before the foundation of
the world. They are called a “host” and are likened unto an army. They are
called sons of God in Job 1:6:
KJV Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present
themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
KJV Psalm 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming
fire:
KJV Job 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?
declare, if thou hast understanding. KJV Job 38:5 Who hath laid the
measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
KJV Job 38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who
laid the corner stone thereof; KJV Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang
together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
3) The nature of angels: Angels are spiritual beings that can appear in a
bodily form to men. KJV Judges 13:2 And there was a certain man of
Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his
wife was barren, and bare not. KJV Judges 13:3 And the angel of the
LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art

barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. KJV
Judges 13:4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor
strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: KJV Judges 13:5 For, lo,
thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head:
for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall
begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines. KJV Judges 13:6
Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came
unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of
God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me
his name:
KJV Genesis 18:1 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of
Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day; KJV Genesis
18:2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him:
and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed
himself toward the ground,
Angels do not reproduce: KJV Mark 12:25 For when they shall rise
from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as
the angels which are in heaven.
Angels appear in masculine form expect for on instance in Zechariah 5:9
where two angelic beings seem to appear as women. KJV Zechariah 5:9
Then lifted I up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came out two
women, and the wind was in their wings; for they had wings like the wings
of a stork: and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heaven.
In this passage these being may even be fallen angels given the context.
Also, they have wings, whereas in other places they do not.
Angels cannot die, thus evil angels are punished in the lake of fire for
eternity, and the elect angles live with God for eternity. KJV Luke 20:36
Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are
the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
The Ministry of Angels to Christ and to believers:
Assistance KJV Matthew 4:11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold,
angels came and ministered unto him.

Assistance to Believers KJV Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering
spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

Worship of God KJV Isaiah 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw
also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled
the temple.KJV Isaiah 6:2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six
wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet,
and with twain he did fly.KJV Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and
said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his
glory.
Bring revelations to the saints:
KJV Acts 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with
the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers:
who received the lively oracles to give unto us:
KJV Acts 7:53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and
have not kept it.
KJV Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him
in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no
room for them in the inn. KJV Luke 2:8 And there were in the same
country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by
night KJV Luke 2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and
the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
KJV Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I
bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. KJV Luke
2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is
Christ the Lord.
Give comfort to saints: KJV Acts 27:23 For there stood by me this night
the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,

Guide saints at death into the presence of God: KJV Luke 16:22 And it
came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into
Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Save the saints from physical death: KJV Daniel 6:22 My God hath
sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt
me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before
thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
KJV Psalm 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep
thee in all thy ways.
As part of the army of the Lord of Hosts they execute God’s
judgments on God’s enemies:
KJV Psalm 68:17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even
thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy
place.
KJV Isaiah 37:36 Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in
the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand:
and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead
corpses.
KJV Revelation 14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon
the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden
crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. KJV Revelation 14:15 And another
angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on
the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to
reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. KJV Revelation 14:16 And he
that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was
reaped. KJV Revelation 14:17 And another angel came out of the temple
which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. KJV Revelation 14:18
And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire;
and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust

in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her
grapes are fully ripe.
KJV Revelation 14:19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and
gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the
wrath of God .KJV Revelation 14:20 And the winepress was trodden
without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse
bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
