Flax Fields
I said I would do a video of a flax field, so here it is. It's getting tough to find flax fields in bloom around here as I was late getting this done.
North Dakota farmers have grown flax since prairie sod was broken. Producers grow two types of flax: seed flax for the oil in its seed and nutritional value, and fiber flax for the fiber in its stem. Today producers in the upper Midwest and the Prairie Provinces of Canada grow seed flax.
Flax is an annual plant that has one main stem. At low plant populations, branching is seen at the base similar to tillers in a cereal grain. The stems terminate in a multibranched inflorescence that bears blue (or rarely white) flowers. Flax grows to a height of 24 to 36 inches.
