Rimsky-Korsakov - Russian Easter Festival Overture. Op36 (1888)
The Russian Easter Festival Overture Op.36 is based on liturgical themes mainly from a collection of old Russian Orthodox liturgical chants called the Obikhod.
Rimsky-Korsakov is that said he wanted to depict "the legendary and heathen aspect of the holiday, and the transition from the solemnity and mystery of the evening of Passion Saturday to the unbridled pagan-religious celebrations of Easter Sunday morning".
From my point of view, it’s a radically different take on the Choral Easter music that has so sewn up the market. There is reverence, drama and a wonderfully resurrectional, over the top ending. It's almost a rock piece that's just full of joy and energy.
About the Score
*****************
The score I created and edited myself... using Sibelius 7.13 and Note Performer 3.11. It's not just a Youtube post from A.N. Other. I created this and can now, after all many hours of work, play it
