Abstract:

In this video we review George Marsden’s The Outrageous Idea of Christian Scholarship, highlighting his ideas and comparing them to others who have analyzed this topic. Marsden’s work speaks to the abandonment of religion in our academic institutions and how it has since advanced to praising secularization while demonizing any divergence of thought. Moving from the issue at hand, he addresses the various methods that will be necessary to correct this. Marsden opines on the future of academia and advancing the notion that community education needs to be a central concern to encourage success. Lastly, he ensures that the reader understands the point of academia is not a selfish success but is instead a means to uplift others, freely give, and spread the Judeo-Christian values of Jesus Christ.
