Walking in the Air" is a song written by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman, based on the 1978 children's book of the same name by Raymond Briggs. The song forms the centerpiece of The Snowman, which became a seasonal favorite in England and Finnish television. The story recounts the fleeting adventures of a boy and a snowman come to life. In the second part of the story, the boy and the snowman fly to the North Pole. "Walking in the Air" is the theme for the trip. They attend a snowman party, in which the boy appears to be the only human until he meets Santa Claus with his reindeer, and the boy receives a scarf with a snowman design. In the film, the song was performed by St. Paul's Cathedral choir boy Peter Auty and re-released in 1985 (on Stiff Records) and 1987.
