Biu Ji 鏢指

We were at this location between 2018 and 2021. 1829 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016. We changed the name again to more accurately reflect our MMA with a focus on classical Chinese, French, and English Boxing: Black Sun Boxing. This is where we started to get more serious about filming content.*

Biu Ji 鏢指 is the third hand form in Wing Chun Kung Fu. Often improperly romanized as bil gee, biu gee, biu jee, and others, the Yale and Jyutping standards, respectively are Biu Ji or Biu Zi.

This often gets translated as "darting fingers" but this is not correct. "Biu" is a noun that means a dart, or the tip of a spear (and can also mean a guard or sentry). "Darting" is not synonymous with the object "dart". It means rapid movement, and while power is emphasized in the form, it is not particularly focused on speed. Other translated as "thrusting" but a dart doesn't thrust, a dart flies. So what do darts and spear tips have in common? Piercing. Penetrating.

If I could sum up Wing Chun in one word, it would be Biu. We invade the opponent's space, we pierce inside their guard, inside their stance. We use direct movement.
