Toxic Fandom: Addressing Disingenuous Arguments and Behaviors

On June 28, 2022, YouTuber a Maxfield Von Priestley released a video on his perspectives in dealing with the TOXIC FANDOM label that has been broadly levied against large portions of fandoms by the media, showrunners and social media “influencers”. This includes fans of:

Star Wars. Star Trek. Doctor Who. Lord of the Rings. Marvel Cinematic Universe. DCEU. Disney legacy movies. Classic films from the mid-20th century. 70s-90s tv shows. And comicbook readers.

This video presents my point of view on the power dynamic, the core issues, and the dishonest tactics being used against legacy / source material fans. I also discuss what I believe to be the real problem, namely that such loyal fans are rightly pointing out that current year remakes and “reimaginings” are in fact counterfeit goods... with a media paid to be complicit in covering for what I believe believe to be cheaply made knock-offs sold as the real thing. And all the while, deranged and demented bandwagon ‘allies’ with no love of the stories, characters or source material revel in asserting dominance through name calling.

How do we as a fans, actual fans of things we love, respond to all of this? Max has his take and I have mine. I hope you enjoy this video.
