China Cracks Down on Free Speech in Hong Kong

The erosion of Hong Kong's unique freedoms, which began in the 1980's, is reaching its final stages. Jimmy Lai, a prominent media mogul has been arrested under the new national security law. It looks as though this may mark the beginning of the end for his newspaper which regularly publishes dissenting opinions. Once major press publications are unable to openly criticize the Chinese Communist Party, individuals will quickly lose any freedom they have to speak out. Hong Kong will soon be just another Chinese city.
