Confederate Monument Relocation

This monument has stood in the Plaza for 160 plus years in the Nations Oldest City. Upon it were some etchings of the Stars and Bars as well as the names of some who lost their lives in the Civil war. At the top was a cluster of cannonballs and at the base were four cannons, set about 10 feet away on the four corners pointing at the monument. Local descendants of those etched upon it commissioned it. Anyone that knows local history would recognize the names. There are streets with their names on them. No where upon the monument did it promote slavery and many do not realize that the Civil War was not just about slavery, it was really about states rights.
Sometimes it seems that another one may be on the way for that very reason.
While I think it should stay right where it is, I am happy to report that it is being moved to a cool spot, I hope the 4 cannons will be there too and I definitely plan on doing an orbit or two around it once it has been moved.
There was quite the vocal crowd, most seemed to be against it's removal and while standing there (after the livestream) a group of latin people asked me what was going on, they thought it should stay too.
St. Augustine is all about history, It has been fought over many times, burned, pillaged and it's been under the Flag of numerous countries before the United States was born. Just to the east is a statue of Ponce De Leon, I wonder how long it will before someone takes offense at that, just like Christopher Columbus in other cities.
