Quick Multiplication (2 digit by 1 digit)

Hello! Today, I will go over another way to do quick math computation but this time its for multiplication, simple multiplication. The focus for today's video is multiplication of 2 digit numbers by 1 digit number. The traditional way we are taught is to multiple the ones digit then the tens digit and add any carry overs. The method I will teach you requires practice. The more you practice, the quicker you will be at computing these math problems.

The two scenarios we will use are:
1.) Round down to the nearest tens digit and add the remaining ones digit.
For example, 83 would be broken down into 80 + 3.
2.) Round up to the nearest tens digit and subtract the remaining ones digit.
For example, 87 would be broken down into 90 - 3.

The rule of thumb for the two scenarios is if the ones digit is greater than 5, then round up and subtract. If the ones digit is less than 5, round down and add.
