On June 8, 2022, officers with APD’s TITAN unit attempted to stop a vehicle with an expired registration. The vehicle pulled into a parking lot and appeared to be stopping. The driver then accelerated and tried to flee the scene, striking an innocent motorist as he entered the roadway. As officers made contact with the driver, they found he had three firearms near him in the vehicle.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident. The accident disabled both vehicles and caused minor injuries to the innocent driver. Several bags of narcotics were recovered from the vehicle. In total, officers recovered three firearms, 1.5 pounds of marijuana, 4 grams of MDMA, and 53 grams of methamphetamine. The 31-year-old driver was charged with multiple traffic and narcotics charges along with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Traffic stops are one of the most dangerous interactions an officer can have. You may be encountering your average citizen or you may be encountering a convicted felon with multiple firearms beside him. We are proud of the professionalism shown by these officers. Their teamwork and quick reactions brought this incident to a safe conclusion and removed another armed felon from our streets.
