So the father of the Soviet nuclear bomb Igor Kurchatov explained why it was necessary to create this formidable weapon. The USSR began developing its atomic bomb in 1942. At that time, intelligence reported on nuclear strike plans hatched by the US against the Soviet Union. As a result, the USA, the UK, Germany, and Canada attracted 12 Nobel Prize scientists who were creating an atomic bomb.

In response, Stalin ordered the development of a nuclear bomb. Of course, the project was implemented in the strictest secrecy. Decades later, the declassified top-secret files about the USSR's atomic bomb revealed many interesting facts about scientists' work.
