Here are seven traits of a dark empath, the most dangerous personality type. Can you be an empathic psychopath? Do compassionate narcissists exist? According to studies, some people may have certain Psychopathic, Machiavellian, or Narcissistic traits who also exhibit dark empathy. So, yes, it is possible to possess a blend of empathic traits and dark triad traits. Dark empaths certainly exist and may account for as much as one-fifth of the general population - however, additional research on a broader scale is needed before such conclusions can be drawn.

This personality type describes people who appear cold but are also kind and compassionate. However, these individuals experience what’s called cognitive empathy. Meaning, while they can understand someone's emotional state very well, instead of bonding with them as ordinary empaths do, they usually exploit it. Basically, emotional manipulation comes naturally to these folks. And that spells trouble!

A dark empath can even be more dangerous than a typical dark triad type, because the dark empath may pull you in closer and inflict more harm as a result. Of course, this doesn’t mean that every dark empath will harm others emotionally - but they can.
