AT&T is selling DirecTV, Xandr, and more? | September 2, 2020 Piper Rundown
AT&T is considering selling their stake in DirecTV to deal with their mounting debt burden.
AT&T bought the business for $49 billion in 2015, and a sales price would come at a huge loss. DirecTV’s subscriber base is declining at 18% a year, with Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) falling in the high teens.
AT&T is exploring the potential sale of its digital advertising division, Xandr, as well. AT&T acquired the biggest component of those operations, AppNexus, for about $1.6 billion in 2018 under a plan to challenge heavyweights, like Google, a piece of the multibillion-dollar digital ad marketplace.
