On Sunday, June 26, Michigan Pride will return with the 2022 Pride Rally taking place at the capitol from 12-2 p.m. on the anniversary of the Marriage Equality Act.

Michigan Pride is a non-profit organization providing education, outreach, support, and events to enhance the lives of lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender people and to build quality relationships with all Michigan residents.

This year’s events will look a little different, forgoing a parade and festival, as in previous years.

“Here is a start to getting back to in-person engagement and a new beginning,” said Michigan Pride’s official flyer.

The rally promises to provide engaging and empowering events to celebrate pride month. The speaker line up and times are still being determined.

“We look forward to celebrating self-acceptance, achievements, legal rights, and pride,” read the event’s Facebook post. “We would like to slowly re-introduce our in-person events in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, a pivotal moment in modern social movements.”

Michigan Pride asks that participants please practice COVID-safe practices. Mask wearing is not required but is welcomed. Individuals are asked to respect the space of others and to enjoy the day’s events on the capitol lawn.

Happy pride month!
