Summary:
Most Christians think of the cross of Christ as a T-shaped post with a crossbeam. But is it possible a crossbeam was hoisted and fixed to a living tree? Scripture says Christ was nailed to a tree. A post is not a tree! A wooden barn, desk or guitar is not a tree, so why would a post be called a tree? Let’s investigate the mystery of the cross…

The Greek and Latin words corresponding to "crucifixion" applied to many different forms of painful execution, including being impaled on a stake, or affixed to a tree, upright pole (a crux simplex), or (most famous now) to a combination of an upright (in Latin, stipes) and a crossbeam (in Latin, patibulum). Seneca the Younger wrote: "I see crosses there, not just of one kind but made in many different ways: some have their victims with head down to the ground; some impale their private parts; others stretch out their arms on the gibbet".
In some cases, the condemned was forced to carry the crossbeam to the place of execution. A whole cross would weigh well over 135 kg (300 lb), but the crossbeam would not be as burdensome, weighing around 45 kg (100 lb)

Takeaway:
It is best to always let Scripture interpret Scripture to get a Bible understanding, even when the subject has been ingrained in our minds historically as a certain thing. We have come to visualize the Crucifix as the picture of the cross with two other crosses for the other malefactors. But perhaps Jesus was nailed to a tree, as the Bible says, and the other two were on His left and right side on the same tree! Prayerfully consider it.
