DISCIPLESHIP IS MULTIPLICATION!

Discipleship overview shows it’s about multiplication of Jesus-like people. We all agree our Lord Jesus sent us make disciples. But what is that really about?

Who is a disciple of Jesus?
A disciple is a learner, a pupil, following one’s teachings.
Another word is APPRENTICE.

Jesus, John, Pharisees had disciples - Mark 2:18
About following a person to learn. Being with them. Doing what they do.

Christian used only 3 times. Jesus never called His disciples Christians.
Disciple used about 270 times
Christian does not suggest learning trade. Allows a person to be passive.

We need to examine ourselves. Are we disciples or Christians.
Imagine if you asked Jesus, ‘would you like us to make Christians?

THE BIG PICTURE - ITS ABOUT MULTIPLICATION
To really understand discipleship we must see the big picture
What is God trying to do?

Genesis 1:28
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Matt 4:19 Come and I will make you fishers of men.

Matt 4:23-24 Describes what Jesus was doing and of course , His disciples were watching.
Then He sent them to do the same and they did.
Luke 9 & Luke 10

Jesus made some statements:
Luke 13: 18-21 The Kingdom of God is like leaven hidden in a lump and spreads quietly through the lump. Multiplication of Yeast.
John 12:24 Grain of wheat dies and bears much fruit. Again, Multiplication.
John 14:12 - the works that I do those that believe will do - Like Jesus
Matt 28:18 Go and make disciples - Multiply & like Jesus
Mark 16:17,18 Go and preach the Gospel - Multiply & like Jesus
Very clear:
Multiplication of Jesus-like people
It’s about 1. Multiplication 2. Like Jesus

Jesus is building. Matt 16:18
I will build my church, Body, Bride, Temple of living stones, (THE TRUE CHURCH)
Its a family of Disciples
Jesus made the first ones. They go on to make other and so on.

Give example:
Paul, Aquila & Priscilla, Apollos, Corinthians

False teaching out salvation:
- for self
- for a good life
- important thing is to believe and grow as a Christian.
All false! Anything that does not cause multiplication of Jesus-like people (fruit don’t look and act like Jesus) is false.

We need to examine ourselves.
What we do for God must fit the big picture or its another Gospel.
