This is my second reflection on George Orwell's (1949) 1984 now that I have finished the book. Winston and Julia's 'safe space', then their capture and torture. Finally, Winston is released by the Party with his mind cleansed. The role of the Thought Police, and the inability to protect family and friends. The Party controls the truth, erases any inconvenient events from both the public and private records. The Newspeak dictionary being prepared for universal use by 2050.
My video concludes with two reflections on 1984's parallels with today:
a. The sales of 1984. 'George Orwell’s “1984” is topping Amazon’s best sellers' https://qz.com/1956937/george-orwells...
b. The ethical test. Can we run the ethics test on our own behaviour and that of our elected leaders?
My first video on 1984 was published on Rumble on 14 June 2022, https://rumble.com/v18cwc5-how-orwells-1984-helps-us-understand-the-present.html
