Eagles are large diurnal soaring raptors that have powerful legs and large talons that allow them to grasp their prey. They have keen eyesight allowing them to spot them from a distance.
The eagles have wings which present a significant emargination, which distinguishes them from the Falconidae (falcons, hawks). Like some buzzards, they have feathered tarsi, but eagles have larger ones than these.
Many species are vulnerable to habitat destruction. In addition, located at the top of the food chain, these birds of prey concentrate many pollutants in their bodies (pesticides, heavy metals, etc.) and therefore, like many predators and scavengers, they are frequently victims of avian lead poisoning1 .2, especially when they ingest lead shot.
