The City of Tallahassee, released relevant videos, photos and audio recordings from the vehicle pursuit and subsequent officer involved in the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Mychael Johnson that occurred on Blair Stone Road on March 20, 2020.
Police say, they spot a stolen car, but didn't engage in a pursuit at first the driver suspect. Only Air 1 unit sheriff’s helicopter followed the driver until he failed to carjack a passerby before crashing near the the intersection of Blair Stone Road and Mahan just moments before he was fatally shot.

Police say, Johnson was trying to get the gun from the officer holster after a short foot chase where Johnson tried to carjack a second vehicle.

On September 04, 2020 the Grand Jury, which is comprised of local citizens, returned presentments on these incidents. In each, the Grand Jury gave a No True Bill. This indicates that the Grand Jury found that officers acted in accordance with State Statutes.

“I’d like to thank the Grand Jury for its service. These citizens provided a valuable service to our community, and I hope that its findings today can help us begin to heal,” Chief Lawrence Revell said.
