This simple hip muscle balance test will expose weaknesses in your hips. The single leg Romanian deadlift is a staple of strength training programs, and it is an excellent way to test your hips. If you cannot control the position, it means your hip muscles are too weak and/or too inflexible in multiple directions to properly stabilize your pelvis.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO
Vincent demonstrates the single leg Romanian deadlift (abbreviated as the 1RDL)and shows you how you can use it to gauge the health and strength of your hips. He explains the key points of the 1RDL and what progress he's personally made on it with his hamstrings. He also explains why you might want to use this hip muscle strength test and how it relates to sports.

Many sports like hockey, golf, baseball, soccer, and surfing require you to have excellent single leg control and hip articulation. If you struggle to do the 1RDL with proper form, it's a sign that your hip muscles aren't fully prepared for the rigors of your sport.
