In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision on Friday to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe. Wade ruling, which recognized a woman's constitutional right to an abortion, the way is paved for about half of the 50 states to ban or heavily restrict women's access to abortions.

“I'm furious. I'm so angry,” one resident from New Mexico said. “I think women will have to go through measures that they shouldn't have to. Crossing state lines. Doing something that's illegal.”

One abortion-rights organization in Mexico said it has been helping U.S. women turn to their southern neighbour to go around such constraints and help them in accessing abortions.

Run in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, Las Libres offers step-by-step assistance to women taking pills to induce an abortion. The organization says it has received donated medication, which it will send to women in the U.S.

“We are guaranteeing the security of women because the law is not right, the law is restrictive, and it only puts people’s lives at risk,” said Veronica Cruz, feminist advocacy coordinator of Las Libres. “In this case, we are guaranteeing people’s health, life and freedom.”
