The Ancient San Pedro Forest of Malacatos, Ecuador

Situated amongst the Andean peaks in southern Ecuador, Malacatos is named for the Malacatus tribe that ruled over a half dozen smaller tribes in the area. The hills surrounding the town are peppered with thousands of sacred San Pedro Cacti, some of them incredibly old, and massive.
One of our farm-hands at the my late mothers finca brought me into these extraordinary cactus forests a few months back, and I made this vlog of my recent trip.
Unfortunately, the largest of these Abuelo's was cut to the ground, presumably by the local ranchers. Why, I can't imagine. You will see the wreckage in this vid. You have been warned. You will also see quite healthy cacti as well.
I will return to this place in a few weeks to make a full length vid, which will include harvesting with traditional tobacco blessing, and a bit more info about the San Pedro Cactus. I apologize for the shaky camera. The full length vid will be smooth. Aho!
