Tempest Collective and We Believe Tara Reade present:
Where Feminism and Vulnerability Meet: a book release and reading from Tara Reade’s memoir Left Out: When The Truth Doesn’t Fit In

Recorded February 20th, 2021 and benefiting Know Your IX and Voices In Action.

Founded in 2013, Know Your IX is a survivor- and youth-led project of Advocates for Youth that aims to empower students to end sexual and dating violence in their schools. Know Your IX envisions a world in which all students can pursue their civil right to an education free from violence and harassment. They recognize that gender violence is both a cause of inequity and a consequence of it, and they believe that women, transgender, and gender non-conforming students will not have equality in education or opportunity until the violence ends. Know Your IX draws upon the civil rights law Title IX as an alternative to the criminal legal system — one that is more just and responsive to the educational, emotional, financial, and stigmatic harms of violence.

Know Your IX supports the choices survivors make — whether or not to report, and to whom to report — and recognizes that these choices are particularly difficult because our laws and communities offer a severely limited set of options for survivors. Given the tremendous flaws and violence of the criminal justice system, Know Your IX celebrates Title IX’s potential to create effective anti-carceral responses to serious harms while recognizing that this promise has not yet been realized.

Voices in Action is 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that works to provide protection and safety from sexual abuse and violence through supporting survivors. Founded in 2018 by Silence Breaker Jessica Barth, Voices In Action is committed to providing advocacy and support to victims, empowering survivors, uncovering serial perpetrators, and holding abusers accountable. Voices in Action puts survivors first while providing a holistic and innovative approach toward eradicating sexual harassment, misconduct, and assault, along with providing trauma-informed support. They offer an accessible and safe space to report and timestamp incidents of misconduct and abuse online with a unique system that tracks serial perpetrators. They strive to empower victims, and to promote equality, inclusion, and accountability within the industry.

Voices In Action was created by survivors, for survivors, and represents all genders. Their vision is of a world in which no one has their voices taken from them due to sexual violence ever again.
