The expression “once in a blue moon” has been done to death in art, literature, and popular lexicon, but the real deal – the full blue moon – never gets old.The blue moon is, after all, the full moon. What makes it special enough to have a different label is that it is the second full moon in a month. That doesn’t happen often, although it is not even as rare as the expression it has inspired suggests. The Last Such Full Moon was Seen in 1948 and will be missed for another Seventy Six Years.
