Telegraph Park Hay Lakes, Alberta

We decided to take the little one fishing to a local Trout Pond and tech her how to fish. Well we didn't catch anything had some bites but enjoyed the afternoon and explored Telegraph Park.
Telegraph park is located off Highway 21 about 45 minutes from Downtown Edmonton. It has a Beautiful Trout Pond stocked yearly, a small campground with playgrounds, washrooms and a picnic shelter. The park is approximately 80 acers with walking trails and some Alberta History to check out as well.
Hay Lakes Telegraph station plays an important role in Alberta’s History and our Communication with the rest of the World. It represents the coming of growing technology in Alberta’s early development. Hay Lakes Telegraph Station was established in 1876 and was the 1st Telegraph station in the area. It became functional in November of 1877 when the first Telegraph was sent to Battle ford over 350km away. The Telegraph station was only operational for a couple years until the line was extended to Edmonton and the Station was abandoned. Hay Lakes formed part of the Blackfoot Indian Trail from Edmonton into the prairies which attracted many settlers from many different nationalities to form one of Alberta’s finest mixed Farming Communities.
