Ukraine: Heading East
How Refugees are Welcomed in Russia

‘We sent our kids off to school, not knowing if we’d see them again. We went to sleep, not sure if we’d wake up’. Zinaida is a refugee from the Donbass. Since 2014, her family, like thousands of others, has been surviving under Ukrainian shelling. Finally, in February 2022, she managed to get to Russia with her children. They were received in a church in the Rostov region.

‘When the children were placed in their rooms, the first night, they expected to be shelled’, recalls Father Alexander Malikov.

These are the subjects of the film Ukraine: Heading East, which was released in March this year. Since the beginning of summer, 1.6 million Donbass and Ukraine residents have entered Russia (according to TASS). We post a fragment of the film on World Refugee Day.
