?Why?

A Wand from Ollivanders and a trip to Hogsmeade sounds in order to me Neville. We all know he never went to Ollivanders™ Wand Shop in Diagon Alley until later in the series, which means his mojo was just "off" most of the time. We all know he grows up to be a real hero. I saw a fanfiction movie on youtube here that showed Neville's parents are alive in a hospital / mental ward, is that true? I thought they were dead. Your thoughts?
