Right to Repair: Why our mechanic of 30 years can't reprogram our car.

This is a phone call I did with the mechanic who tried to repair our 2017 Suburban and he explains why the computer has become so sophisticated that the manufacturer now requires a higher level of certification than the standard mechanic certification just to be allowed to acquire this new software.

Just to be clear, this particular crew of mechanics have been servicing our cars for the past 30 years. We knew the original owner of the shop and his son continues to run it. Either they can keep our cars running or we drove our cars for so long that we used them past their shelf-life.
