Drone music, drone-based music, or simply drone, is a minimalist ambient music genre that emphasizes the use of sustained sounds, notes, or tone clusters – called drones. It is typically characterized by lengthy audio programs with relatively slight harmonic variations throughout each piece.

This kind of music promotes the inner journey and the discovery of one's deep self. The series of harmonics is like an umbilical cord connecting the earth to the universe. It is also the common thread in the history of polyphony, which followed the harmonic deployment. Indeed, the oldest medieval melodies were sung in unison (octave man woman), with a drone in the tonic, like the harmonic song.
