MEET JIM CARLIN

Thirty years ago, I visited Iowa for the first time. The plain-spoken sincerity, faith, and strength of families spoke to me. I thought that this could be a great place to build a life and family. It turns out I was right. I met and married my wife, Donna, four years later. That was 25 years ago. Together we raised three children and now enjoy three beautiful grandchildren. My move to Iowa was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I set up a solo law practice in Sioux City in 1992. At the outset, I did just about everything an attorney could do. From litigating divorces to doing some criminal work, and representing people who had been injured through no fault of their own, I got to know people very closely in their struggles. They have been the people I have identified with over the last 28 years.

My faith led me to visit nursing homes for 18 years, to start a nonprofit corporation with friends for Kenyan orphans, and start a book club at the Fort Dodge prison.

I’ve run for and been elected to the Iowa House of Representatives and the State Senate, where I’ve served since 2017. The legislation that I have focused on has helped keep children safe, protect second amendment rights, give parents a choice in where their children are educated, protect the economic interests of seniors, better care for our Veterans, and protect the unborn. Representing the interests of working-class people and fighting for those left behind has been the greatest honor of my life.

I am a member of the Morningside Assembly of God in Sioux City, United States Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion.

I am running for United States Senate because Iowans deserve someone fighting for their freedoms and their futures. Our rights and values as Americans are under attack. The status quo has failed us, and we need someone in Washington who will do what it takes to put America and Iowans first.
