he Leshan Giant Buddha, the full name of the Great Maitreya Stone Statue of Lingyun Temple in Jiazhou, (also known as Lingyun Giant Buddha) is located at the intersection of the Minjiang River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River in Shizhong District, Leshan City, Sichuan Province. It is the tallest stone Buddha statue in the world. The Leshan Giant Buddha was excavated in the first year of Kaiyuan (713) in the Tang Dynasty and completed in the nineteenth year of Zhenyuan (803). The Big Buddha was built as a whole, and some structures such as the bun were added later. When the Big Buddha was built, there was a wooden pavilion on the outside to protect it, but it was destroyed later. The Leshan Giant Buddha has been repaired many times in history. During the Republic of China, it was partially destroyed by soldiers belonging to Yang Sen during military training, but then it was repaired by others.
