Granny Fight Club

‘One of the myths is that when a young man is infected by HIV-AIDS, if he sleeps with a granny, he feels like he’s cleansed, he’s healed.’ Nancy, an UJAMAA Africa project coordinator, knows what she’s talking about. She met lots of grannies who fell victims to young rapists.

On the outskirts of Kenya’s capital, elderly women walk in constant fear as they increasingly fall victim to rape. However, some are now fighting back thanks to self-defence classes designed especially for them. The program is making a difference in many women’s lives; whether they are 55, 85, or even 105 years old, many say they have been empowered to live safely and confidently.
