VIDEO DESCRIPTION
The War of 1812 changed the United States of America. The first few decades as a new country were difficult. The Americans had internal conflict and problems with foreign powers like Britain, France, Spain, and the Barbary States (North Africa). In the early 1800s, the Americans were continually harassed by the British Navy. British soldiers were boarding American merchant ships and impressing American sailors into the British Navy. The British were also arming the Native Americans in the U.S. who were attacking American settlers. These acts would lead up to the War of 1812, also known as the Second War of Independence. At the country would be introduced to Andrew Jackson.
