Dr. Bernie Siegel is a retired pediatric and general surgeon. He is the author of Love, Medicine, & Miracles, as well as several other books.

In 1978 he began talking about patient empowerment and the choice to live fully and die in peace. He originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients' drawings dreams, images, and feelings.

Many doctors dismiss dramatic healings as an error in diagnosis, where Dr. Bernie Siegel would focus and study these successes and what we can learn from them.
