Did you know that the first women’s domestic violence shelter wasn’t established until 1974? The Women’s Advocates opened in Saint Paul Minnesota. And it wasn’t until two years later that the first Legal Center for Battered Women in the U.S. was established. Within a decade of the first shelter, more than 700 shelters operated across the U.S. - serving 91,000 women and 131,000 children.
