Canada and Denmark announce settlement of Hans Island dispute – June 14, 2022

In Ottawa, Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, Greenlandic Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede, and Danish Foreign Affairs Minister Jeppe Kofod speak with reporters following the signing of an agreement to resolve a longstanding boundary dispute between Canada and Denmark over the uninhabited Arctic islet of Tartupaluk (Hans Island). The agreement also resolves boundary issues in the waters between Canada and Greenland. The ministers are joined at the event by Dan Vandal (the federal minister of northern affairs), P.J. Akeeagok (the premier of Nunavut), Paul Pike (the Newfoundland and Labrador MHA for Burin–Grand Bank), Vivian Motzfeldt (Greenland’s minister of foreign affairs), and Aluki Kotierk (the president of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc.).
