It's Only Talk & Roll #16 - Glam Rock Special

On this edition of It's Only Talk & Roll my glittery panel and I tackle a genre that is equally celebrated and reviled in rock history Glam Rock.

Glam rock came to prominence during the navel gazing, denim clad seriousness of the early 1970s, an era where prog rock, melancholy singer-songwriters and "serious" rock dominated. as a reaction to that, it emphasised crazy costumes, glitter, performance and fun and wickedness. And it also produced some of the most enduring songs in rock history.

We will be looking at the origins of the genre and it's lasting influence through New Wave, New Romantics, Hair Metal, Indie, and current pop.

What is glam?
Is it a fashion statement or is there a musical trademark too?
Who were "Arty Glam" as opposed to "Pop Glam"?
Which major acts became "Glam Adjacent"?
Just how much glitter was sacrificed in the service of shiny costumes?
