South Union Shaker Village and Farms/Hidden from the world for over 100 Years!

My visit to the South Union Shaker Colony in Auburn, Ky. The video does not do justice to the sunlight casting through the windows in the different rooms. I just stood, and took in the light playing off the various scenes of the simple, productive lives that they must have led... For over 100 years the colony was closed to outsiders. A welcoming sect that raised orphans and accepted all people to join, giving them a great education and useful trade, some stayed with the community and some left. What did the Shakers contribute through invention? ::: The flat broom, ventilating door transom, round barn, Window sash counterweight, apple parer and corer, automatic seed planter, condensed milk, fertilizer spreader, threshing machine, rotary harrow, shaker lemon pie *yum* , Shaker pantry box, Shaker tilting chair, Circular saw, clothes pins, machinery for making shingles, wash boards, and pails, lumber kiln, metal pen, seed packets, shaker spinning wheel, broom vise, water powered cooling fan, wheel driven washing machine, Shaker Wood Burning Stove, and other important common things.

I stuffed myself at Chaney's Dairy Farm and headed back to my spot at a Boondockers Welcome Host to move on the next day. Oh, and there is a Hurricane coming at me as I prep to move into the FLA........ Southunionshakervillage.com
