There was a day that Peter and John went to the temple at the third hour, which was the hour of prayer and sacrifice. As they were walking there was a certain man lame from his mother's womb laying there. He spent all of his life being carried to the Gate Beautiful where he begged for a living every day.

As Peter and John walked by, that man looked up to them as if to receive something from them. Then Peter fastened his eyes on him, and John said, "Look on us." That was the moment the power of the Holy Spirit was moving.

"Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." Can't you just see all the people stopping and watching what was happening? These people were well acquainted with the lame man. They must have been stunned to hear these words spoken to him. What is more, the name of Jesus Christ, which was a name most of the people opposed.

I believe that these two men Peter and John were men who were ever looking to Jesus. Their eyes always fastened on Him. Therefore were they able to say "look on us." They were ready-men who were alive in Christ.

That lame man was taken by his right hand and arose, then leaped up, walked, and followed them into the temple. No one ever went into the temple that way, but this man did. It was also said of him that "he held them, and "all the people saw him walking and leaping and praising God." This is such a depiction of true service and discipleship in the Lord.

If you fasten your eyes on the Lord then you will be always ready in a moment to fasten them on the person Jesus sees in your day to day life. If you do not fasten your eyes on the Lord, then do not expect to be much use to Him. You will only be a little trickle of water in the dry cups of the thirsty, rather than a life-giving stream of His loving mercy flooding upon their dry grounds.

“Does it make sense to pray for guidance about the future if we are not obeying in the thing that lies before us today? How many momentous events in Scripture depended on one person's seemingly small act of obedience! Rest assured: Do what God tells you to do now, and, depend upon it, you will be shown what to do next.” ― Elisabeth Elliot, Quest for Love: True Stories of Passion and Purity
