2022 Chicago Bears Minicamp gets underway on Tuesday as this year’s mandatory minicamp runs from June 14-16. Matt Eberflus and the Bears wrapped up OTAs last week and now they’ll ramp it up a notch before having 5-6 weeks off before training camp in late July. All eyes are on Justin Fields this week as the Bears media will be present at Halas Hall for all 3 practices. Will Fields and the Bears offense or the Bears defense have the better week? Bears Now host Harrison Graham takes a look at 5 storylines to monitor during Bears mandatory minicamp on today’s show, thanks to Manscaped. Top 5 Chicago Bears Minicamp Storylines:
#1: Justin Fields’ Progress: Fields has drawn lots of praise from Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, GM Ryan Poles, OC Luke Getsy and several other players and staffers this offseason. It’s clear Fields is becoming the leader of this Bears football team, but can he take the next step as a quarterback? Fields development and progress is the Bears top priority for the 2022 NFL Season.
#2: Bears Offensive Line: Matt Eberflus revealed at Bears OTAs that they are still working through different O-Line combinations. We saw rookie Braxton Jones get 1st team reps at left tackle last week while Teven Jenkins was working with the 2’s. Larry Borom has gotten work at LT & RT. Right guard is still in flux with Sam Mustipher and Dakota Dozier getting most of the reps there. Outside of Cody Whitehair at left guard and Lucas Patrick at center, the Bears offensive line is very much undecided right now.
#3: Kyler Gordon injury? Gordon missed at least the final Bears OTA practice (if not more), but was in the building at Halas Hall according to Matt Eberflus. Is that a signal that Gordon is injured? If the rookie CB is not on the practice field this week, that likely means he’s dealing with some sort of injury.
#4: Robert Quinn holdout? Quinn did not attend voluntary OTAs over the past few weeks, but with Bears minicamp being mandatory, if he skips, technically it would be considered a holdout unless he is excused. Quinn trade rumors have being circulating off-and-on throughout the NFL Offseason and have caught some steam again. Bears GM Ryan Poles isn’t scared to make a trade as he showed by trading Khalil Mack. Could he trade Robert Quinn?
#5: Bears WR depth & competition: Darnell Mooney is entrenched as WR1 for Da Bears with Byron Pringle and rookie Velus Jones Jr. considered to be the next two in line. Beyond that (and even somewhat with Pringle and Jones) there are major question marks at the wide receiver position in Chicago. PFF ranked the Bears as the worst WR corps in the NFL. Between Equanimeous St. Brown, Tajae Sharpe, Dante Pettis, Dazz Newsome, David Moore and a few others, who will step up for Justin Fields and the Bears offense?
