Learn how to crochet the treble (abbreviation tr) crochet stitch. This stitch is also called the Triple Stitch. The Treble/Triple stitch is a tall stitch that works up quickly and a little taller than the double crochet and has larger gaps which work well for projects with a lacy look or for large buttonholes.

We will now begin working on Row 1 of treble crochet.

Begin by making a chain of 13 chain stitches (ch 13). The first 10 chain stitches make your foundation chain; the last 3 make your turning chain.
Yarn over (yo) the hook twice and insert your hook between the 2 front loops and under the back bump loop of the third chain from the hook. Remember to yarn over from back to front.
Yarn over the hook and draw your yarn through the first 2 loops on your hook. This step begins the actual treble crochet (tr) stitch.
Yarn over the hook and draw through two more loops.
Yarn over the hook and draw through the last 2 loops on the hook.
One triple/treble crochet (tr) stitch is complete. You should have one loop remaining on your hook.

To finish your first row of double crochet, work 1 double crochet stitch in each successive chain stitch across the foundation chain, beginning in the next chain of the foundation chain.

You should have 11 triple/treble crochet stitches in Row 1 (counting the turning chain as the first triple/treble crochet).

Chain 3 (ch3 ).

Turn your work counterclockwise and we will begin working row 2.

WORKING ROW 2: Work a triple/treble crochet in the top of every triple/treble from the previous row. Be sure to insert the crochet hook under the top two loops of each stitch.

We will continue to work a treble crochet in each remaining stitch across the previous row; be sure to work the last treble crochet in the top of the triple/treble from the previous row. Do not create a new stitch in the turning chains or you will add a stitch to the row.

You can continue practicing or fasten off.

FASTENING OFF: After the last stitch, cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch end. As you do when you take your crochet hook out for a break, draw the hook straight up, but this time draw the cut yarn end completely through the stitch. Pull the 6-inch end to close.
