Disney: The Human Cost of Happiness

James dives into The Walt Disney Company's toxic labor practices and unethical business behavior in this week's 51/49 segment, and explores the idea that people are behind every Disney movie and theme park experience, and there is a tremendous cost to bring us what Disney calls "magic and happiness".

So, even though Disney wraps itself around a warm blanket of "magic and happiness", it is at its core, a large multinational corporation, and corporations collectively, almost without fail, are going to try and squeeze every dollar possible out of their customers, squeeze every working hour out from their employees and pay them poverty level wages, while distributing as much cash as possible to their executives and shareholders.

The price of Disneyland admissions outpace inflation, Disney theme park employees face racial and gender discrimination issues, are often underpaid, food insecure, and many struggle with homelessness, all the while executives and shareholders are receiving multi-million dollar payouts.

And it's up to us, consumers, to say something and do something to protect workers and employees.
