Syncytin and Infertility

This is a fascinating short article on a protein called syncytin, which originated from a retrovirus and is now part of the human genome. It is essential for reproduction, and supports cellular fusion, essential for the implantation of the placenta. Apparently, it also has some sequence similarity to the spike protein that is the basis for many of the SARS CoV-2 vaxxines. This implies that an autoimmune attack on syncytin due to exposure to the spike protein is a distinct possibility, and would probably result in infertility issues.
