The Secret Civil War

These are strange times, even stranger when you were just dropped in the middle of it.

Today I am off to the park with my son, which gives plenty of time to talk about how strange the COVID response has been, and continues to be here in the United States. In China, though we all suspect that the numbers were underreported, I knew that the government response was an honest attempt to control the spread of the virus. Here in the United States I am not getting that vibe.

Back in China, when it reached the point that irreparable harm was going to be done to the economy, the government ordered everything opened back up. Here there seems to be no end in sight. It really feels as though they are bent on destroying everything.

I am also puzzled by how intersectionality has wormed its way into sports, more specifically football. Football has always been the territory of the macho, ultra nationalistic types. I can't picture the fourth of July without football and fireworks. They sing the national anthem at the opening of the game. How did that become a stage for people protesting against the country?

It seems that now you cannot even attend church. All of our institutions seem to be under attack. Lately I am even hearing politicians calling for canceling Christmas. Now it seems you cannot even gather with your family, the most basic institution of our society.

With all of this plaguing my thoughts, it came to mind that maybe the civil war everyone has been talking about is already happening, just not among the regular folks. Maybe there is a civil war taking place within the government and institutions that make up our society, and we seem to be losing.
